Mad Girl Love Song
October 18 - November 11, 2018

The Heinzer Reszler gallery is pleased to present Aurélie Gravas' third exhibition entitled Mad Girl Love Song. After having explored the technique of magnetised 'cut' (paper cut out on metal plates), Aurélie Gravas' work is being renewed on the surface. Aurélie Gravas is now working on canvas and wood. This Gravas continues to use a diversity of materials and supports that allow her to her modernist-inspired compositions. Her pictorial work develops in parallel with sound and musical research. Aurélie writes, composes and performs texts that feed her entire artistic production. The idea of setting in her pictorial work links the two aspects of her work. For the Mad Girl Love Song exhibition, the artist is using classic subjects that allow her freedom to explore shapes, colours, materials and spaces: still life and the figure are still life and the figure for the most part. Different worlds unfold the compositions: sometimes dreamlike (Night in the Studio), sometimes sober and enigmatic enigmatic (Le bouquet), there is always an impression that is both strange and familiar. Her texts give him a literary and poetic dimension. They are inspired by paintings from the history of art, news stories and anecdotes that fuel an imaginary world in which the female subject embodies different states and dimensions. Mad Girl Love Song is the title of a poem by Sylvia Plath (American poet, 1932-1963) which inspired the inspired the paintings and is the source of a song.
