You were only waiting for this moment to arise
May 15 - June 12, 2025

“He understood that in every age a conflict is replayed, in which those who want to hasten the future and those who hope to preserve the past clash.”

- Tristan Garcia, Vie contre vie, p. 550

You were only waiting for this moment to arise is both the title of the exhibition, of a pair of tar-covered plaster boots that can be removed with a beetle-shaped boot puller, and of the sound piece it plays, composed in collaboration with sound artist Boris Gétaz. Repeated three times like a magic formula, can Paul McCartney's lyrics at the end of the protest song Blackbird still act as a spell, an incantation to ward off reality?

In the age of the hypnocratic society - to use the concept of the philosopher Jianwei Xun, which in reality does not exist - it is urgent to regain control of reality, to hack into the trance state induced by the over-scripting of chaos and destruction. In short, it's time to listen and recognize the tinkling of a bell that tells you you're now in a lucid dream.

Another key could open the door, cross the threshold of indecision and shake off your sleep paralysis. Bataille cosmique, a block of Tatüren sandstone, invites sleepwalkers to a frugal aperitif where sunflower seeds are consumed as a tribute to thermodynamics, useless offerings and dissipative organisms.

As for the paintings, they act as loopholes. They open or close, and could be interpreted in the light of the Anglo-Saxon expression to find a loophole: so many possibilities to find a flaw in the system... or to guard against it.
