The Shudder Palace brings together sixteen contemporary artists deconstructing our collective visual cultures. At once critical and poetic, their works examine the inherited imagery that shapes our world through its circulation, appropriation, and reinterpretation.
We are all recipients of images and the narratives they carry. Without us being fully aware, our identities, our positions in society, our values, and our worldviews are subtly influenced by them. From the photographs that accompany or haunt our family histories, to the images propagated by mass media, their impact on our collective and individual memories is at once complex and profound.
Amid the endless streams of images, what are the possibilities for us to pause, to forge new meanings, to counter dominant and often pervasive and destructive narratives, and to cultivate connections that bring meaning and emancipation?
